The Ivoirian government has provided assistance to populations affected by flooding in Man, consisting of food, non-food items, and a financial support of 1.5 million FCFA. This assistance aims to support households affected by the damage caused by the rains. The assistance was presented on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Man.
The director regional of Solidarity of Tonkpi, Tuo Alice, stated that this assistance does not compensate for the losses suffered by the beneficiaries. She explained that the donations, composed of food and non-food items, express the government's material and moral support. However, she noted that they do not erase the losses and ordeals that the victims have suffered.
Beyond this one-time assistance, the government plans to rely on the "Response to Shocks" project to provide direct assistance to poor and vulnerable populations facing disaster situations, particularly floods. This project, led by the ministry in charge of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and Poverty Reduction, provides cash transfers to affected households.
According to Tuo Alice, the mechanism relies on the Unique Social Register (RSU), a national database that identifies poor and vulnerable households. Households registered in this database can benefit from financial assistance ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 FCFA. This approach aims to provide targeted support to those who need it most.
The prefect of the Tonkpi region, prefect of the Man department, Lancina Fofana, who presided over the ceremony to hand over the donations, recalled that this assistance cannot replace the goods lost by the victims. He stated that the government's goal is to show its support to the affected populations.
The beneficiaries, through their spokesperson, Kalilou Kouyaté, expressed their gratitude to the Ivoirian government, particularly to the minister in charge of Solidarity, Myss Belmonde Dogo. The donations handed over to the victims include rice, oil, tomatoes, spaghetti, soap, kettles, and cups.
The assistance provided by the government consists of various items, including food and non-food items, to help the affected households. The government has taken a multi-faceted approach to address the needs of the victims, combining immediate assistance with long-term support through the "Response to Shocks" project.
