The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIESA) for the construction of urban roads and stormwater drainage systems in Odienné was presented to administrative authorities, local governments, technical services, and nearby residents on October 30, 2026. This consultation is part of the Sustainable and Inclusive Development of Secondary Cities project (PDDIVS), funded by the Ivoirian government and the World Bank. The goal is to gather observations and recommendations from the population.

The project aims to develop 10.8 kilometers of urban roads, including traffic lanes, sidewalks, pedestrian areas, and stormwater drainage systems. These developments are expected to improve traffic flow and reduce flood risks through better rainwater evacuation. According to Vali Kra N'guessan, a civil engineer with PDDIVS, the projects will take into account environmental and social concerns.

The consultation allows for the identification of potential environmental and social impacts of the works and the measures to prevent, mitigate, or compensate for them. The engineer presented the technical characteristics of the sub-projects, potential impacts, and the Environmental and Social Management Plan (PGES). This plan defines the responsibilities of those in charge of monitoring these measures.

Alexe Ourega, representing the PDDIVS coordinator, noted that these studies help anticipate risks associated with future construction sites. He welcomed the participation of the populations, who raised several questions and made proposals. The participants' contributions will enrich the reports from the studies.

Stanislas Tchimondan, first secretary general of the Odienné prefecture, praised the participants' contributions, which will allow for the improvement of urban infrastructure, environmental protection, and consideration of residents' concerns. This consultation is a preparatory step for the realization of the works.

The Sustainable and Inclusive Development of Secondary Cities project (PDDIVS) is financed by the Ivoirian government and the World Bank. The project aims to develop infrastructure in secondary cities while taking into account environmental and social concerns. The consultation in Odienné is part of this approach.

The projects will contribute to the development of the city while protecting the environment and considering the concerns of the populations. The authorities have taken into account the contributions of the participants to ensure the success of the project.
