The Chinese Embassy in Côte d'Ivoire has awarded 18 scholarships to female students at the Lycée Moderne d'Excellence de Jeunes Filles Dominique Ouattara in Yaoudé, Guiglo. The scholarships were presented during a ceremony attended by local education authorities. This initiative aims to support the recipients in their academic pursuits while encouraging the learning and promotion of Mandarin within the school.

The Lycée Moderne d'Excellence de Jeunes Filles de Yaoudé, which was established as a high school for the 2026-2027 academic year, teaches Mandarin alongside French, English, Spanish, and German. The scholarships, provided by the Chinese Embassy, are intended to help students overcome social difficulties and promote academic success. Recipients were selected based on their good conduct in class and interest in learning Chinese.

Christ Aymet Yoro Loua, president of the Réseau des Enseignants Ivoiriens Amis de la Chine (RESAC), handed over the scholarships to the beneficiaries. He explained that the Chinese Embassy's initiative aims to encourage the learning of Mandarin in Ivorian schools. This year, 18 scholarships were awarded, exceeding the initial plan of 10, to support more students and encourage others to learn Chinese.

Yoro Loua urged the recipients to demonstrate perseverance, assiduity, and a passion for studies. He also invited other secondary schools in the Cavally region to follow the example of the Lycée de Jeunes Filles de Yaoudé in promoting Mandarin language learning. The goal is to see more schools in the region take an interest in Chinese language and culture, leveraging the opportunities it offers.

The scholarships are part of a larger initiative, with around 20 schools benefiting from Chinese scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Lycée Moderne d'Excellence de Jeunes Filles de Yaoudé is one of the schools selected to receive this support. The scholarships provide financial assistance and material support to help students succeed in their studies.

The promotion of Mandarin language learning in Côte d'Ivoire is part of China's efforts to strengthen cultural and academic ties with the country. The initiative has been welcomed by local education authorities, who see it as an opportunity to broaden the horizons of Ivorian students. The learning of Mandarin is expected to open up new opportunities for students in the region.

The Chinese Embassy's initiative has been praised for its focus on supporting female students, who often face challenges in accessing education. By providing scholarships and promoting Mandarin language learning, the Embassy aims to empower young women and encourage their participation in the global economy.
