A 16-year-old boy, Kobenan Yao Richard, has died in the town of Soko, located in the Bondoukou department of Côte d'Ivoire. According to eyewitnesses, the teenager was subjected to severe physical violence by Abou Ouattara, who accused him of stealing approximately 30,000 FCFA from his room. The incident occurred on Friday evening and the boy died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The circumstances surrounding the death are alarming, with witnesses reporting that the teenager was tied up, with his hands and feet bound, and a rope around his neck. He allegedly suffered violent blows, particularly to his feet. Despite pleas from onlookers to stop the violence, it continued until the boy's death. The body was then left behind the victim's family home around 4 am.

Kobenan Yao Richard was the only son of Kobenan Nguetia and leaves behind a family of four children. His father is said to be devastated, not only by the loss of his son but also due to his past financial dealings with the main suspect, Abou Ouattara. The suspect had previously been a tenant of Nguetia and allegedly owed him 80,000 FCFA for a sale of cashew nuts.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and have arrested several individuals believed to be accomplices to the crime. However, Abou Ouattara remains at large. The police will need to verify the testimonies provided by witnesses, determine the exact circumstances of the teenager's death, and establish the responsibilities of those involved.

The local community is in shock following the tragic event, and the victim's family is yet to come to terms with the loss. The authorities' ability to swiftly bring those responsible to justice will be crucial in maintaining public trust and ensuring that such incidents do not recur.

Human rights organizations and child protection agencies have expressed concern over the case, emphasizing the need for vigilance and action to prevent child abuse and violence.
