The Assembly of the People (ALP) in Burkina Faso has pledged its support for local artisans by offering substantial prizes at the 2026 SIAO exhibition. According to Paul Ismaël Bicaba, Director of Institutional and Digital Communications at the ALP, the institution aims to encourage creativity and recognize the country's rich craftsmanship. The ALP will award prizes to the best regional stands and outstanding works on display at the Thomas Sankara creativity pavilion.

The ALP's initiative includes the "Pôles des régions" special prize, valued at 3,250,000 Francs. This prize will be awarded to the top three stands, with the first receiving 1,500,000 Francs, the second 1,000,000 Francs, and the third 750,000 Francs. The selection process will evaluate stands based on originality, product diversity, finishing, and the use of local materials.

The evaluation process for the stands involves three main criteria: stand presentation, welcome and presentation, and the presence of promotional materials. These criteria are further divided into eleven sub-criteria, including general stand decoration, product presentation, originality, diversity, professionalism, labeling, and availability of promotional materials such as brochures and business cards.

In addition to the "Pôles des régions" prize, the ALP will also award the Thomas Sankara Creativity Prize, valued at 3 million Francs. This prize will recognize the top three works on display at the Thomas Sankara creativity pavilion, with the first receiving 1,500,000 Francs, the second 1,000,000 Francs, and the third 500,000 Francs.

According to Bicaba, the ALP's support for artisans is aimed at promoting and recognizing Burkinabé craftsmanship. The institution seeks to appreciate the creativity and hard work of local artisans, while also encouraging them to continue producing high-quality products that showcase the country's rich cultural heritage.

The 2026 SIAO exhibition provides a platform for Burkinabé artisans to showcase their products and compete with others. The ALP's involvement is expected to boost the morale of the artisans and motivate them to produce even more innovative and high-quality products.

The ALP's initiative demonstrates its commitment to supporting the creative sector in Burkina Faso. By providing financial incentives and recognition, the institution aims to contribute to the growth and development of the country's artisanal industry.
