The President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, chaired the weekly Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The Minister of Information, Pingdwendé Gilbert Ouédraogo, stated that the Council examined and adopted several dossiers and made important decisions for the country's progress and the well-being of Burkinabè citizens. These decisions align with the vision of the Progressive People's Revolution.
The Council adopted a draft finance bill for the 2027 fiscal year, submitted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. According to Minister Aboubakar Nacanabo, the 2027 budget is projected to be 4,200 billion FCFA in revenue and 4,800 billion FCFA in expenditures. This budget aims to boost growth by supporting the agricultural sector, industrialization, and the equipment of national armed forces, as well as improving basic social sectors.
The draft finance bill, which will be transmitted to the Legislative Assembly of the People, includes tax relief for the sale of eggs, travel agencies, and state-owned companies by revising the General Tax Code. Minister Nacanabo emphasized that this budget is in line with the R.E.L.A.N.C.E. plan. The plan focuses on stimulating economic growth and improving the living standards of Burkinabè citizens.
The Council also adopted two major dossiers under the Presidency of Faso. One of them concerns the creation of a football competition called "La Ligue de la souveraineté" (The Sovereignty League). Minister of Sports, Annick Lydie Djouma Pikbougum/Zingué Ouattara, stated that this championship is part of the Presidential Initiative for the Revival and Promotion of Elite Sports.
The Sovereignty League aims to promote a better geographical distribution of sports offerings across the national territory. The league will feature 20 teams, with one team per region and three teams for the Kadiogo region and two teams for the Guiriko region. This initiative seeks to bring high-level competition closer to all regional sports communities.
Additionally, the Council validated the list of projects from the National Bureau of Major Projects of Burkina under the Presidential Initiative for Health (IPS). The goal of IPS is to reform the healthcare system by improving healthcare services and accessibility for Burkinabè citizens. The approved projects include the construction and equipment of 20 communal medical centers, 20 modern maternity wards, four operating blocks, and a heart institute.
The implementation of these healthcare projects is expected to significantly enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in Burkina Faso. The Council's decisions reflect the government's commitment to addressing the country's healthcare challenges and promoting the well-being of its citizens.
