The Centre omnisports d’entraînement des Étalons (COMET) in Ouaga 2000, Burkina Faso, is set to undergo a significant transformation with the construction of a new R+5 sports hotel and several accompanying facilities. The project, valued at 25,211,763,675 francs CFA HTVA, will be built on an area of over eight hectares and is expected to be completed within 15 months. The new facilities aim to provide Burkinabè athletes with a modern space for accommodation, training, medical care, and high-level preparation.
The new complex will feature two R+5 buildings, one with 57 double suites for team A and the other with 300 standard rooms for other teams. An R+1 building will be dedicated to medical and paramedical services. The site will also include dining areas, multipurpose rooms, a gymnasium, an omnisport plateau, locker rooms, and a VAR-dedicated room. The project also includes the construction of football fields with natural and synthetic grass, tennis courts, an Olympic swimming pool, and relaxation pools.
The project was launched by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo on September 22, 2026. He emphasized that the new infrastructure is a realization of President Ibrahim Traoré's vision for sports development in the country. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of having modern facilities while pursuing reforms necessary for the emergence of a genuine sports industry in Burkina Faso.
The Prime Minister also called on the construction company to respect the deadlines and technical standards, ensuring that the resources mobilized are used efficiently. He highlighted that the project is a result of the collective effort of the Burkinabè people. The Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment, Annick Pikbougoum/Zingué Ouattara, recalled the historical significance of COMET, created during the 1998 CAN organized in Burkina Faso.
The Minister assured that her department will monitor the construction, ensure compliance with standards, and control the deadlines. The project aims to take COMET to the next level, making it a modern hub dedicated to the preparation and support of Burkinabè athletes. The goal is to improve performance conditions, promote talent, and make sports a lever for social cohesion and national influence.
The new facilities will also include road and network works to support the development of the site. Once completed, the complex will provide a comprehensive environment for athletes to train and prepare. The project is expected to contribute significantly to the development of sports in Burkina Faso.
