The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, through the General Directorate of African Integration, held the fourth review of Budget Program 137 "African Integration" on September 22, 2026. The review, themed "Budget Program: Towards Optimal Governance," aimed to examine the program's execution level as of August 31, 2026, and identify areas for improvement to achieve set objectives.
The review was presided over by Ambassador Bernadette Marie Conrad NIKIEMA/TAPSOBA, Director General of African Integration and responsible for Program 137, on behalf of the Secretary General of the Ministry. She emphasized the importance of adapting the program to new orientations on African integration, particularly in the context of the Sahel States Confederation's consolidation.
NIKIEMA/TAPSOBA highlighted that the review is an exercise in monitoring and accountability in public resource management, stressing the need for good budgetary governance. She noted that good budgetary governance is not an administrative option but an imperative. The review method aims to enhance transparency in resource utilization, increase effectiveness in implementing integration actions, and ensure accountability to authorities and the people.
The session examined the mid-term execution of the program, identified encountered difficulties, and sought solutions to improve activity implementation. Discussions also focused on formulating recommendations for the 2027 budget preparation and the annual performance report. NIKIEMA/TAPSOBA invited participants to actively engage in examining the program without complacency and make necessary adjustments to support optimal implementation.
The program's transversal character was recalled, and participants were encouraged to contribute to building a peaceful, integrated, and economically prosperous Africa. The meeting brought together around 40 participants from various departments and structures, including the General Directorate of African Integration, General Directorate of Studies and Sectoral Statistics, and the Development and International Integration Directorate.
Key stakeholders present included points of contact from departments and structures concerned with promoting African integration. The review aimed to ensure that the program aligns with the country's and region's development goals.
