The 2026-2027 wet agricultural campaign is ongoing in the Nando region, despite irregular rainfall. A Ministry of Agriculture mission led by Minister Delegate for Animal Resources, Dr. Amadou Dicko, visited the Sissili province on October 3, 2026, to assess crop progress and production prospects. The delegation visited agricultural exploitations in Sabouè and Pissaï villages, in the Biéha commune.

Regional agricultural officials expressed confidence in achieving the set objectives for the campaign. According to Antoine Zorma, Director of the Nando Regional Agriculture Department, irregular rainfall has not significantly impacted crops. The region maintains its cereal production target of 931,000 tonnes by the end of the campaign. Zorma assured that with resumed rainfall, this objective should be met.

The ministerial mission allowed for a concrete assessment of farm conditions. The first stage took the delegation to Nacro Karimou's field, covering 113 hectares, with 112 hectares cultivated. The farm focuses on maize, soybeans, sesame, peanuts, and yams. Harvest forecasts for this site include 344 tonnes of maize, 27 tonnes of soybeans, 3 tonnes of sesame, and 23 tonnes of peanuts.

These figures demonstrate the production potential of the visited farms. Beyond monitoring the wet campaign, the mission also prepared for the dry campaign. The Regional Agriculture Department stated that arrangements are in place for a timely start to the dry campaign. Antoine Zorma indicated that preparations for the dry campaign are underway.

The Ministry of Agriculture aims to closely monitor the campaign's progress and anticipate future production stages in the Nando region. The mission evaluated the impact of irregular rainfall on agricultural production and explored strategies to mitigate potential losses. This visit demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring food security.

The Nando region's agricultural sector plays a vital role in Burkina Faso's economy. The region's farmers face challenges, including climate change and limited access to resources. The government's efforts to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity are crucial for the country's food security and economic development.
