The government of Burkina Faso has initiated a project to improve access to clean water in Bobo-Dioulasso, a major city in the country's Guiriko region. On October 10, 2026, Minister of State, Ismaël Sombié, launched the construction of new water infrastructure aimed at enhancing the water supply to several neighborhoods. The project targets areas with high demand for water, including sectors 17, 18, 26, and 27, which currently face challenges in meeting their water needs.

The project involves the construction of a pumping station with a capacity of 300 cubic meters per hour, a 2,000 cubic meter water tower, and approximately 7,000 meters of pipeline. These developments aim to increase the availability of clean water for households in the region. The project's execution timeline is set at ten months, after which it is expected to improve access to clean water for nearly 132,000 additional people.

Minister of State Ismaël Sombié emphasized that the goal is to ensure that the availability of water translates into actual access to this essential service for the population. The project reflects the government's commitment to addressing the daily concerns of its citizens, as per the directives of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The initiative prioritizes improving the living conditions of Burkinabé people.

The project in Bobo-Dioulasso is part of a broader strategy to enhance water supply infrastructure across the country. Similar projects are planned or underway in other locations, including Ouahigouya, Koudougou, Fada N'Gourma, and Dédougou. The objective is to increase the capacity of hydraulic infrastructure and more effectively meet the needs of the population.

Minister of State Sombié has instructed the executing company to adhere to contractual deadlines and ensure the quality of the works. He also urged technical structures and project monitoring officials to maintain their mobilization to guarantee rigorous execution and achieve the expected results.

The project is driven by the imperative of dignity and social justice, aiming to make access to clean water a reality for an increasingly large number of Burkinabé people. By investing in water infrastructure, the government seeks to improve living conditions and provide a concrete response to the daily challenges faced by its citizens.

The initiative aligns with the government's policy of prioritizing the well-being of its citizens, as outlined by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré. By focusing on essential services like clean water, the administration aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of Burkinabé people.
