The city of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is set to host the first edition of the "Siin Monré" festival, a two-week celebration of traditional gastronomy, local products, and cultural heritage. The festival, taking place from November 8 to 21, 2026, at the Miramar terrain in Tampouy, aims to promote local consumption and provide a platform for producers, restaurateurs, artisans, and traders to showcase their products.

The festival, promoted by Sylvain Ouedraogo, also known as the "homme de Tampouy," has the theme "Consommons local, consommons sain" or "Let's consume local, let's consume healthy." According to the organizers, the event seeks to address the lack of visibility of Burkinabé traditional products and practices, despite the country's rich culinary and cultural heritage.

The festival's program features several spaces, including a gastronomy area that will host restaurateurs, food processors, and exhibitors, with culinary animations and competitions. A separate artistic program will showcase musical and cultural performances by around 120 artists. Additionally, a cultural and patrimonial space will feature traditional dances, storytelling, and exhibitions.

The festival will also include a merchant space dedicated to local products, handicrafts, and fashion, as well as panels on local consumption, entrepreneurship, gastronomy, and identity. Furthermore, invited communities will present their traditions, fostering intercultural dialogue and social cohesion. The event will also feature simulations of traditional weddings, with an educational and festive purpose.

The two-week duration of the festival has raised some questions among journalists, but the organizers argue that it allows exhibitors to make the most of their participation and helps the population adopt the habit of consuming local products sustainably. The official launch is scheduled for the second week of the festival.

In the long term, the "Siin Monré" festival aims to become a reference cultural and gastronomic event in West Africa. For this first edition, the organizers are counting on public support and partner mobilization, under the motto "Consommons local" or "Let's consume local."

The festival's program is expected to contribute to the local economy and promote Burkinabé culture, both locally and internationally. With its focus on traditional gastronomy, local products, and cultural heritage, the "Siin Monré" festival is poised to become a significant event in the region.
