The Burkinabé Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, visited Loumbila on September 23, 2026, to assess the patriotic immersion program for 944 newly recruited health agents. The 900 health agents present at the immersion site, including 600 women and 300 men, will undergo a 10-day training program at the National Institute for Education Personnel Training (INFPE) in Loumbila. This second cohort follows a first wave that took place from September 6 to 16, 2026. The agents, comprising medical specialists, pharmacists, surgeons, nurses, and midwives, among others, will receive training to enhance their skills and prepare them for their new roles.
The immersion program is designed to provide the health agents with practical experience and exposure to the country's healthcare challenges. The training will focus on building their capacity to address the healthcare needs of the Burkinabé population. Special attention has been given to the female participants, with a crèche and nursery facilities set up to enable them to balance their training with childcare responsibilities.
According to Dr. Kargougou, over 350 pregnant women are receiving medical care on site, and around 200 children are being cared for at the crèche. Some women have even given birth during the immersion period and have resumed their training afterward. The Minister emphasized the importance of this program in preparing the health agents for their future roles and ensuring they are equipped to provide quality healthcare services.
The 944 health agents in this second cohort are part of the 1,888 agents recruited by the Ministry of Health under the IPS.
