As Ghana joins the global community to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, has called on women in her constituency to make breast cancer screening and regular medical check-ups a priority. This annual campaign aims to educate the public about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and promote timely medical intervention.

According to Hon. Hajia Zuwera, women should not wait until they develop severe symptoms before seeking medical attention. Regular health checks can help identify abnormalities at an early stage, enabling patients to receive appropriate care promptly. She encouraged women to incorporate breast examinations into their routine healthcare practices and consult qualified health professionals whenever they notice unusual changes.

Hon. Hajia Zuwera stressed that preventive healthcare should be taken seriously, particularly because early attention to possible signs of disease can improve the prospects of effective treatment. She urged every woman in Salaga South to make time and visit the hospital to check their breasts, emphasizing that prevention is better than cure.

The MP also appealed to women who may have concerns or fears about breast screening to overcome such barriers and take advantage of available healthcare services. She noted that her role as a leader includes serving and saving her constituents, and encouraging them to take preventive health measures is part of her responsibility.

Hon. Hajia Zuwera further called on men to take part in breast cancer awareness and screening initiatives, stressing that breast cancer is not exclusively a women’s health issue. Although breast cancer among men is relatively uncommon, she said men must not ignore the possibility of developing the disease and should pay attention to unusual changes around the breast area.

In Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera’s message has been welcomed by residents and supporters, who say her focus on healthcare demonstrates an approach to representation that extends beyond infrastructure and political activities. They believe that improving the wellbeing of constituents should form an integral part of leadership and community development.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October, provides an opportunity for health professionals, organisations, communities, and individuals to raise awareness about the disease and promote measures aimed at improving early detection. The Salaga South MP has renewed her appeal to women and men in the constituency to take breast health seriously, participate in appropriate screening programmes, and seek professional medical attention promptly whenever they notice concerning changes.
