Bolt Kenya has recognized its top-performing drivers for their contribution during Customer Service Week. The drivers, who have spent at least six months on the Bolt platform, represent cars and boda bodas. They were honored at the Nairobi Driver Engagement Center, where they received practical support, including fuel and vehicle service vouchers, tyres, and other rewards.

Arthur Gacharia, Senior Operations Manager at Bolt, emphasized the importance of drivers in shaping the customer experience. He stated that drivers are often the first and last point of contact in a ride-hailing journey, and their work directly impacts the experience a customer has. The recognition aims to acknowledge the commitment and responsibility that goes into every journey.

The awards presentation capped the week’s activities, during which visiting drivers received breakfast, T-shirts, and reflector vests. Samson Ouma, one of the top-performing drivers, appreciated Bolt for recognizing their efforts and investing in safety on the platform. He also thanked passengers for choosing to ride with them every day.

Bolt has undertaken initiatives to address challenges faced by drivers in Kenya. In partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, the company trained 75 boda boda riders in first aid and emergency response skills. This initiative aims to equip riders with practical skills to respond to road emergencies.

Bolt has also supported drivers transitioning to electric mobility through its partnership with M-KOPA. Thousands of drivers have accessed electric motorcycles through the partnership, with lower upfront financing requirements and reduced running and maintenance costs. Currently, seven in ten electric vehicles operating on the Bolt platform in Kenya are electric.

The ride-hailing sector in Kenya continues to evolve, with changing customer expectations, road safety concerns, operating costs, and an evolving regulatory environment. Bolt has engaged driver representatives, policymakers, and regulators on issues affecting drivers and the wider ride-hailing ecosystem.

The recognition of top-performing drivers highlights the importance of acknowledging the people behind the journeys and the work that goes into delivering a reliable service. For Bolt, recognizing drivers means recognizing the time, effort, and responsibility that goes into every journey, and the role they play in keeping cities moving.
