Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of an unidentified middle-aged man whose body was retrieved from the Nairobi River in the Gikomba area. The body was discovered behind the Kenya Meat Commission premises on September 20. According to police, street boys retrieved the body from the river. The deceased was identified as an unknown middle-aged African man.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the scene and established that the body had no visible external injuries. Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said no personal belongings or other items were recovered from the deceased. The body was moved to City Funeral Home, where it was booked pending identification and a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
In a separate incident, police in Nyamaiya, Nyamira county launched investigations into the death of a man who succumbed to injuries after he was found unconscious in Kenyerere village. The deceased, identified as Vitalis Omwoma, was reportedly found lying helpless and unconscious on the ground at about 9 pm on September 18, in Kenyerere village, Bonyaiguba sublocation.
According to police, a concerned member of the public reported the incident after a man found Omwoma and took him to Nyamira Referral Hospital for treatment. The incident was not reported to police on the day it occurred. Omwoma later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Police noted visible injuries on both legs, the back and buttocks of Omwoma. The body was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the injuries and subsequent death. Officers from Nyamaiya police station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations visited the hospital mortuary on September 20.
A 19-year-old man who had been receiving treatment at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after sustaining serious assault injuries has died. David Bongonko Nyariki, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital on September 20, 2026. Following his death, police at Kegogi Police Station in Marani subcounty have classified the case as a murder incident.
The body of Nyariki was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination. Police are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault that led to Nyariki’s death. The cases of the three men are under investigation with postmortem examinations pending.
