The Bloc Libéral, a political party in Guinea, has released a message on the country's 68th independence anniversary, which is celebrated on October 2, 2026. In the message, the party's president, Oumar Sanoh, called on Guineans to reflect on the country's history and its future. He emphasized the importance of learning from the past while opening up to a more inclusive political dialogue. The party's message focused on national memory, justice, citizen security, institutional strengthening, and economic development.
The Bloc Libéral paid tribute to the actors of independence and recalled the historical role of September 28, 1958. Oumar Sanoh stated that this date is primarily a day of remembrance, honoring those who dedicated their courage, energy, and sometimes their lives to conquering Guinea's freedom. The party emphasized that 68 years after gaining international sovereignty, independence should not be limited to territorial sovereignty alone. It should also guarantee citizens' freedoms, security, justice, and better living conditions.
The Bloc Libéral also addressed several painful issues in Guinea's recent history. The party called for investigations into missing persons and the return of remains to families whenever possible. They also demanded a judicial inquiry into the discovery of six unidentified bodies in Saboukhouré, in the Forécariah prefecture. The party mentioned the landslide at the Dar-es-Salam dump, which claimed several lives, and the N'Zérékoré stadium tragedy on December 1, 2024.
The party demanded that investigations' conclusions be made public and that justice and reparations be granted to victims and their families. The Bloc Libéral also referenced the September 28, 2009 events and stressed that justice must be pursued through the indemnification of victims. After the first-instance decision in July 2024, the party urged that indemnification be carried out swiftly, fairly, and transparently.
Another concern raised by the Bloc Libéral is the increasing number of road accidents. The party cited recent accidents on the RN1 highway in Friguiagbé and Sangardo. The Bloc Libéral argued that road safety must become a genuine public policy, including better technical control of vehicles, regulation of interurban transport, driver training and discipline, and adapted signage.
On the institutional level, the Bloc Libéral emphasized that consolidating the rule of law requires an independent and accessible justice system. The party called for an impartial and diligent investigation into recent events. They encouraged authorities to prioritize national reconciliation, which should not mean abandoning justice. The Bloc Libéral advocated for a sincere, inclusive, structured, and result-oriented political dialogue.
The party suggested that different components of national life should participate in debates on institutional, electoral, judicial, economic, and social issues. They also mentioned the possibility of measures to ease tensions, respecting the Constitution and laws, particularly for individuals detained in politically connoted cases.
