An educational forum was recently held in the Blekusu Electoral Area of Ghana's Ketu South Municipality, encouraging 475 students from basic schools to make responsible choices and remain focused on their education. Organized by Mr. Raphael Nukamewor, the Assembly Member for the area, the forum brought together students, headteachers, teachers, and community participants. The event's theme was "Your Choice Today, Your Life Tomorrow."
The forum featured several speakers, including Dr. Bismarck Ledzi Gbologa, Madam Deladem Ella Mensah, Pastor Godwin Agbodzi, and Mr. Dumegah Benedict Kosseme. Dr. Gbologa urged students to consider the consequences of their decisions and resist peer pressure. He encouraged them to focus on their studies to build a better future. The students were also advised to be mindful of their online activities and the potential consequences of their social media usage.
Madam Mensah cautioned students against the irresponsible use of social media, highlighting that online posts or shares could have future consequences. Pastor Agbodzi emphasized the importance of taking education seriously, noting that students' current choices would influence their future. He also encouraged students facing academic difficulties to consider acquiring practical skills or learning trades for sustainable livelihoods.
Pastor Agbodzi further advised students to choose their friends carefully and avoid those who could negatively influence their lives. Mr. Kosseme urged students to avoid indecent dressing and conduct themselves responsibly. He stressed the importance of respect, humility, and hard work in achieving their aspirations. The speakers aimed to mentor and encourage the young people to make informed decisions about their education and future.
Mr. Nukamewor organized the forum in response to concerns about poor academic performance among students in the community. He announced a scholarship package for students who excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Students from the electoral area who obtain a single aggregate grade in the BECE will receive a full scholarship to support their education at the Senior High School level.
The educational forum is set to become an annual program during every academic year. As part of the initiative, Mr. Nukamewor donated exercise books to all participating students to support their studies. The teachers and students expressed appreciation for the Assembly Member's efforts to improve education and create better opportunities for young people in the community.
The students pledged to improve their academic efforts and conduct themselves responsibly to build a better future and make Blekusu proud. The event concluded with a call for citizens, individuals, and well-wishers to support initiatives aimed at improving education in the area.
