The Biskra water management directorate is expecting the completion of several projects aimed at enhancing the city's water supply. These projects are part of efforts to meet the growing demand for drinking water in the region. The directorate is working closely with local authorities to ensure the timely completion of these projects.
Three new wells are being constructed in the municipality of Tolga, specifically in the districts of Kebabchia, Al-Arousayn, and on the desert road. Additionally, seven new wells are being drilled, and 16 pumping stations are being rehabilitated. These projects aim to improve the water supply infrastructure in the region.
Two new water reservoirs with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters each are being built in the city of Biskra, while a 3,000 cubic meter reservoir is being constructed in the city of Qantara. Five other reservoirs are being built across various municipalities. Furthermore, a new drinking water system is being developed in the new urban pole, which is experiencing rapid urban growth.
Recently, the water management director held a coordination meeting with the director of achievements at the National Agency for Dams and Transfers. The meeting focused on the project to supply Biskra city with water from the Beni Haroun system. A field visit was also conducted to inspect the pipeline for the project, which is considered a strategic initiative to secure water supplies for the cities of Biskra, Ain Zaatout, Qantara, Loutaya, and Shtema.
The Biskra province is witnessing significant development in the water resources sector, with multiple projects underway across various municipalities. To keep pace with urban expansion in Biskra city, a 5,000 cubic meter water reservoir is being built, along with pumping and distribution pipelines. Another project involves constructing a 3,000 cubic meter reservoir to support and mobilize groundwater resources in Ain Zaatout. A deep exploratory well is being drilled to a depth of 1,200 meters to enhance water flow.
Authorities are working to improve the public water service by implementing all projects and mobilizing human and material resources to ensure a reliable water supply. A study is also underway to improve the quality of drinking water in Biskra municipality, and work has begun on the first phase of a project to rehabilitate the well field in Qalub, which supplies Biskra city with drinking water.
