The Alliance for the Promotion of Excellence (Appe) recently celebrated its 21st consecutive year of honoring top students in Benin's national exams. On October 3, 2026, the organization held a ceremony in Adjohoun, where 157 students received prizes and support to continue their education. This initiative aims to promote academic excellence and provide solidarity to students facing financial difficulties. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including local authorities and education officials.
The 157 awardees include 45 students who obtained the Certificate of Primary Studies (Cep), 45 who passed the Brevet d'études du premier cycle (Bepc), and 28 new high school graduates. Additionally, 25 students who regularly used the Appe's libraries and 14 underprivileged students, including two in their first year of high school and 12 in their final year, received support. This recognition not only rewards academic achievement but also acknowledges the challenges faced by some students.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Raymond Daassi, head of the Adjohoun school district, who praised the Appe's consistency in promoting academic excellence. Bernard Ahissou, representing the event's sponsor, Arsène Dansou, encouraged the awardees to continue working hard. Martin Akogbéto, honorary president of the Appe, called for increased mobilization of partners and volunteers to diversify the organization's funding sources.
The event also saw the participation of Félicien Hounkanrin, mayor of Adjohoun, who reaffirmed his support for the Appe and announced the allocation of a plot of land for the construction of the organization's headquarters. Roger Dah-Achinanon, president of the Appe, emphasized that the organization's work goes beyond awarding prizes, as it also provides support to vulnerable students and contributes to the construction of classrooms in local secondary schools.
The Appe's initiative is part of a broader effort to make education a driver of local development. Through excellence, encouragement, and support prizes, the organization aims to promote academic achievement and provide opportunities for underprivileged students. The event concluded with a commitment to continue this work in the years to come, with a new celebration of excellence planned for 2027.
The Appe's efforts have been recognized by local authorities, who have expressed their support for the organization's mission. The allocation of a plot of land for the construction of the Appe's headquarters is a testament to the mayor's commitment to the organization's work. This support will enable the Appe to continue its activities and expand its reach in the community.
As the Appe looks to the future, it is clear that its work will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of Benin's students. With the support of local authorities, partners, and volunteers, the organization is well-positioned to promote academic excellence and provide opportunities for underprivileged learners.
