The Beninese government has taken a significant step towards enhancing vocational training in the country. The Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Employment Promotion, Awaou BACO, officially handed over a substantial package of equipment to the Centre de Formation Professionnelle et d’Apprentissage (CFPA) in Djougou. This investment, valued at 241,412,138 FCFA, is part of a broader effort to modernize technical training facilities in public vocational training centers.

The equipment was provided with the support of the World Bank and is designed to improve the practical training of apprentices. The initiative aims to align training conditions with professional standards and industry requirements. According to the Ministry, the equipment was selected based on the skills to be acquired, curricula, and local economic realities. This approach ensures that training programs are relevant and effective in preparing students for the workforce.

The project involves equipping 12 reference centers with 20 training programs, focusing on 10 priority occupations, and training nearly 900 instructors and professionals. The goal is to transform material investments into tangible opportunities for young people. By providing modern equipment, the government hopes to encourage hands-on training and enable apprentices to acquire directly applicable skills.

The launch event in Djougou highlighted the achievements of beneficiaries of the training programs. 179 young women from the first promotion trained under the ProFoP received their certificates of professional qualification. Additionally, 200 women were identified as beneficiaries of training bursaries in various technical and professional fields. These initiatives demonstrate the government's commitment to promoting inclusion and access to technical and professional skills for women.

Partners and stakeholders have welcomed the investment in vocational training. Abdoulaye Zono, representing the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), emphasized that investing in skills is also an investment in employment and socio-economic development. Minister Awaou BACO encouraged trainees to demonstrate rigor, attendance, and perseverance in their training.

The government plans to make CFPA centers hubs where young people can learn a trade, develop skills, and access new professional opportunities. The modernization of vocational training centers is part of a broader strategy to address youth unemployment and promote economic growth. By providing relevant training programs and equipment, the government aims to equip young people with the skills required to compete in the job market.

The investment in vocational training is expected to have a positive impact on the country's socio-economic development. By focusing on technical and professional skills, the government hopes to reduce unemployment and promote entrepreneurship. The success of the program will depend on the effective implementation of the training programs and the involvement of stakeholders, including private sector partners and local communities.
