The government of Benin has introduced a new biometric verification system for pensioners to prove their existence. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, aims to simplify the process of verifying the life of pensioners. The new system allows pensioners to carry out this verification using their smartphones, thanks to a mobile application called Preuve de Vie.

To use this new system, pensioners must first download and install the Preuve de Vie application, available on the Play Store, App Store, or via the SEMO platform on the Benin government's website. They must also have a valid National Identification Number (NPI) and booklet number. Once the application is open, pensioners must enter their NPI and booklet number to start the verification process.

The verification process involves a biometric scan of the pensioner's fingerprints. The application will guide the user through the process, which consists of placing four fingers of their left hand in the indicated area and holding them there until the scan is complete. The quality of the scan is crucial, and users are advised to avoid reflections and ensure a clear image for successful verification.

Once the verification is complete, pensioners will receive a confirmation notification via SMS or email. This new system eliminates the need for pensioners to physically go to the Treasury office to prove their existence. The manual for the application, provided by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, details the different steps to follow for a successful verification.

In addition to the mobile application, pensioners can also carry out their proof of life using biometric terminals installed in certain public spaces. In this case, they must have a valid NPI and booklet number, and then have their National Identity Card (CNI) read before proceeding with the fingerprint scan on the terminal's sensor.

The introduction of this biometric verification system is a significant improvement for pensioners in Benin, who previously had to travel to the Treasury office to prove their existence. According to the Benin government's website, this new system is designed to make the process easier and more efficient for pensioners. The system was launched on October 3, 2026.

The biometric verification system for pensioners' proof of life is part of the Benin government's efforts to modernize and digitalize its public services. This initiative aims to provide a more efficient and secure way of verifying the existence of pensioners, and to prevent fraud and errors in the payment of pensions.
