The University of Benghazi's Office of Women's Support and Empowerment has initiated its fourth free sewing course, titled "From Beginner to Professional." The program aims to enhance the practical and professional skills of university employees and students. It is conducted every Thursday at the Research and Consulting Center in Al-Hamida, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The course is supervised by trainer Nazira Al-Tarqi.
The course covers a range of topics, including the basics of sewing, using sewing tools, identifying types of fabric, taking measurements, cutting fabric, and creating various clothing patterns. It also encompasses finishing and final tailoring processes. According to Manal Douma, head of the media and public relations department at the office, the program focuses on hands-on training and direct application, accommodating different skill levels.
The course allows beginners to progress gradually and participants will receive a certificate upon completion. This initiative is part of a broader training program by the office to develop skills. Previous courses have covered sewing, knitting, embroidery, computer skills, electronic archiving, and lectures and seminars on mental health and social support.
The programs target university employees and students, offering topics that range from professional and technical skills to awareness programs, all tailored to training needs and led by specialized trainers. According to Douma, practical training is a priority as it provides skills participants can use within their families or develop into small businesses.
Previous sewing and knitting courses have seen strong interest from those eager to learn these skills. The office has observed a positive response to its training initiatives, indicating a demand for such programs. The courses are designed to equip participants with practical skills that can be applied in various contexts.
Douma invited those interested to follow the office's announcements and register for upcoming courses. She emphasized that new training programs are continuously being developed to meet the needs of university employees and students. This approach ensures that the training remains relevant and effective.
The course will continue weekly at the Research and Consulting Center in Al-Hamida, with a focus on practical skills to help participants master the stages of designing and making different clothing pieces. By providing such training, the University of Benghazi aims to support the personal and professional development of its students and staff.
