The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has disclosed that over 10 million vulnerable Nigerians who benefited from the N75,000 conditional cash transfer programme do not have access to mobile phones and are not on social media. This revelation was made during a press conference in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, after a three-day retreat of the party's National Executive Council.
According to Yilwatda, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had executed several projects, including road infrastructure and student loans, and engaged in numerous humanitarian activities, including the conditional cash transfer to vulnerable people from the gains of the fuel subsidy. The programme, implemented under the ministry of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction, aimed to provide financial assistance to those in need.
Yilwatda further explained that the beneficiaries of the programme are poor and vulnerable individuals who do not have the means to access modern communication tools. He emphasized that these individuals are not capable of challenging or discussing issues as is being done in the media. The APC chairman highlighted the efforts of the Tinubu administration to improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly the vulnerable.
The National Executive Council of the APC also made several resolutions during its retreat, including extending condolences to the people of Niger state over the loss of 37 miners. The council expressed its deepest sympathies to the affected families and the government of Niger state. Additionally, the council discussed key national issues and the party's preparations for the 2027 general election.
Yilwatda stated that the NEC took a deep dive into the party's affairs at all levels, reviewing its performance and affirming its strength and preparedness for the 2027 general election. The council also passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, as well as all other APC candidates elected during the primary election.
Furthermore, the NEC resolved to continue reconciliation efforts where necessary and encouraged state chapters to constitute reconciliation committees to ensure party unity. The council also emphasized the need to drive the party's campaign from the front, spreading the message of President Tinubu's achievements across the country.
The APC National Chairman commended Nigerians for their support and called for more backing to ensure President Tinubu's re-election in 2027. The NEC's resolutions and discussions reflect the party's efforts to strengthen its internal unity and prepare for future elections.
