The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has inspected progress on the KNUST Medical School project at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital. The visit, which took place on Monday, October 12, 2026, aimed to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access to specialist services in the municipality. During the visit, Mr. Poku-Adusei engaged hospital management and staff on the facility's achievements, ongoing projects, and operational challenges.

The hospital management briefed Mr. Poku-Adusei on the medical school project, which has received support from VALCO. The project is expected to position the facility as a teaching and training center for future doctors and improve access to specialist consultants for residents of Bekwai and surrounding communities. The MP commended the dedication and sacrifices of health professionals in advancing the hospital's development, stating that "life is precious and good health is fundamental to everything we do."

Medical Superintendent Dr. Serebour and the management team outlined several challenges confronting the hospital, including limited emergency unit capacity, the absence of a dedicated isolation unit, and inadequate accommodation for critical health personnel. They also highlighted the lack of a CT scan facility and delays associated with laboratory equipment. The management expressed interest in exploring public-private partnerships to establish a CT scan and advanced diagnostic center.

The MP pledged to provide free airtime on his FM platform to educate residents on hospital procedures, patient rights, and health protocols. This initiative aims to improve patient flow and reduce congestion and misunderstandings between patients and staff. The hospital management also briefed him on plans to introduce a queue management system.

Both parties agreed to maintain regular engagement towards developing the facility into a center of excellence in the Ashanti Region. The KNUST Medical School project is expected to have a positive impact on healthcare delivery in the region. The hospital's accreditation by the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) as a secondary-level health facility has enhanced its capacity to provide specialist services.

The Bekwai MP has been actively involved in supporting the development of the hospital. He has donated GH¢100,000 to the hospital for specialist equipment and provided GH¢30,000 to support stalled road works in the area. His efforts aim to improve the overall well-being of his constituents.

The collaboration between the MP and hospital management is expected to yield positive results in the provision of healthcare services. Key initiatives, including the medical school project and public-private partnerships, will enhance the hospital's capacity to provide quality healthcare.
