A member of the Bono Regional Council of Elders of the NPP, Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, has called on the party's flagbearer, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and the newly elected national, regional, constituency and polling station executives to tackle inducements in the 2028 parliamentary primaries. He made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, emphasizing the need for the party to present winnable parliamentary candidates.

Mr Mensah, 75 years old and popularly known as "Orga", congratulated the newly elected national executives of the NPP and reminded them that their elections went beyond just securing a political position. He urged them to identify and tackle the challenges that contributed to the NPP's defeat in the 2024 election. According to him, vote buying and favouritism in successive NPP parliamentary primaries remain major setbacks that need to be addressed.

Mr Mensah, a former organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region, stressed that the party's success in the 2028 election depends on its ability to present candidates who are chosen by the electorate, not those who can influence delegates with their wealth. He expressed optimism that with the newly elected executives and Alhaji Dr Bawumia, the party can wrestle political power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP's determination to win the 2028 election and regain political power was highlighted by Mr Mensah, who emphasized the need for the party to bring on board everybody for an effective electioneering campaign. He called on candidates who contested but lost the national, regional and constituency positions to allow the supreme interest of the NPP to override their personal ambitions and remain loyal to the party.

Mr Mensah advised the losers to continue contributing their quota towards making the NPP more appealing to floating voters and enhancing its fortunes of winning the 2028 General Election. He expressed hopes in the newly elected NPP national executives, citing their potential to work with Alhaji Dr Bawumia to achieve an election victory in 2028.

The call by Mr Mensah comes as the NPP prepares for its 2028 parliamentary primaries, with the party seeking to address issues that have hindered its success in previous elections. The party's ability to tackle inducements and present winnable candidates will be crucial in its bid to regain political power.
