Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader and presidential candidate, has congratulated the party's newly elected national executives on their victory. In a statement released on October 4, 2026, Bawumia expressed his full support for the new leadership as they begin preparations for the 2028 general election. The internal elections were held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3, 2026.

The NPP's internal elections resulted in a new national executive team, with John Boadu as National Chairman and Justin Frimpong Kodua retaining his position as General Secretary. Bawumia commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the elections, stating that the outcome reflected the wishes of the party's delegates. He emphasized that the completion of the internal elections marked an important stage in the NPP's reorganisation ahead of the next presidential campaign.

Bawumia urged the newly constituted national executive to respond to the expectations of the party's grassroots and commence organisational work required to mount a strong campaign for the 2028 elections. He pledged to support the new leadership in establishing an inclusive political structure that utilises the abilities, knowledge, and experience of all members. Bawumia stressed that no talent should be left out in the 2028 campaign.

The NPP leader called for unity among party members, emphasising that the party's success in 2028 would depend substantially on unity, organisation, and collective contribution. He urged members to put aside their differences and operate as one party, focusing on the larger objective of restoring the NPP to political power. Bawumia assured that every person who participated in the contest would have a role to play in the party's campaign for 2028.

The newly elected leadership, headed by John Boadu, will be responsible for coordinating the party's national structures and working with Bawumia and the wider membership to pursue the party's objective of returning to government. Boadu has pledged to rebuild the party from the grassroots and restore its organisational strength, emphasising responsibility, humility, and unity as central principles guiding the new executive team.

The NPP's national executive elections saw John Boadu secure 2,888 votes to become National Chairman, defeating Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who obtained 2,408 votes. Justin Frimpong Kodua secured another term as General Secretary with 4,486 votes. Other members of the new national leadership include Kojo Fosu Boadu as First Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye as Second Vice Chairman, and Nana Akomea as a National Vice Chairman.

With the national executive elections concluded, the NPP is expected to shift its attention to organisational, political, and campaign preparations for the 2028 general election. Bawumia's message emphasised the importance of an inclusive campaign structure, redirecting experience, expertise, and political networks developed during the internal contest towards the party's broader electoral objective.
