Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, has assured defeated candidates in the recent delegates' conference that they will play a role in the party's 2028 general election campaign. He stressed the importance of unity in winning the 2028 election, citing that it will not be an easy election and the party will have to work harder.
The NPP held its delegates' conference in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, where new national executives were elected to oversee the party's affairs. John Boadu was elected as the national chairman, promising to lead a renewed NPP that listens and consults more with its branches and members. He vowed to work closely with regional executives, constituents, external branches, and Members of Parliament.
Other newly elected executives include Daniel Titus Glover as National Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as national women's organiser, and Yakubu Abanga as national youth organiser. Justin Kodua Frimpong was reelected as General Secretary of the NPP, securing 4486 votes in the internal election. The elections were held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The national youth organiser election was keenly contested, with Abanga Fuseini Yakubu emerging victorious with 1550 votes. He defeated five other aspirants, including Alfred Kumi Ababio, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, Michael Osei Boateng, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah. The new executives will work with the party's MPs, led by Afenyo-Markin.
Bawumia's assurance to the defeated candidates is seen as a move to unite the party and ensure that all members work together towards the 2028 general elections. He emphasized that winning in 2028 will require unity and hard work from all party members. The party's national chairman, John Boadu, also pledged to serve the NPP with humility and work with every branch of the party.
The NPP's delegate conference was attended by party members and delegates from across the country. The conference provided an opportunity for the party to elect new national executives and discuss strategies for the 2028 general elections. The party's leaders emphasized the importance of unity and hard work in achieving their goals.
The defeated candidates have been assured of roles in the party's 2028 campaign, with Bawumia stating that "there is work for everybody, and we are going to involve everybody." This move is expected to boost the party's morale and ensure that all members work together towards a common goal.
