The Bauchi State Grand Khadi, Justice Umar Liman, has called on seven newly elevated Upper Shari'a Court Judges to maintain the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their judicial responsibilities. He made this call during a two-day induction training organised by the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission for the newly elevated judges. The training was held at the Secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers Union, near the Federal Secretariat, Bauchi.
The training aimed to strengthen the judges' knowledge of judicial procedures, professional ethics, and the effective administration of justice. Represented by a Khadi of the State Shari'a Court of Appeal, Ishaq Magaji, the Grand Khadi emphasised the importance of strict adherence to established judicial procedures and delivering justice without fear or favour. He urged the judges to maintain public confidence in the judiciary and reminded them of their religious responsibilities, urging them to fear God and remain conscious of their accountability for their actions.
The Grand Khadi congratulated the newly elevated judges on their elevation and urged them to embrace the additional responsibilities attached to their new positions with courage. He explained that the training was designed to familiarise the judges with their expanded responsibilities and ensure that they discharged their duties in accordance with the Constitution, applicable laws, judicial procedures, and principles of fairness and justice.
The Chief Registrar of the Shari'a Court of Appeal, Bauchi, Tukur Saleh, commended the state Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his support and efforts towards improving the workforce of the judiciary in the state. Saleh also commended the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission, Dr Ibrahim Danjuma, for his dedication and commitment to improving the judicial system through reforms and initiatives.
Dr Ibrahim Danjuma, while welcoming the participants and other stakeholders to the training, thanked individuals and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the training. He urged the newly elevated judges to protect their integrity, saying doing so would also protect the image of the judiciary. Danjuma also encouraged the judges to utilise the knowledge acquired during the training sessions in their proceedings and judgments.
The presentations during the training focused on the procedures of appeal and jurisdiction of the Upper Shari'a Court, code of conduct for Upper Shari'a Court judges, procedures for civil and criminal trials, as well as court management and administration. The participants were also reminded of the importance of continuous learning and professional development to ensure efficient service delivery.
The Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission's effort to improve the judicial system through reforms and initiatives has been commended by various stakeholders. The commission's dedication to enhancing the knowledge and skills of judges is expected to have a positive impact on the administration of justice in the state.
