The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, for allegedly luring and raping a 50-year-old mentally ill woman on the outskirts of Garin Malam. According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect was arrested on September 25, 2026, after a 40-year-old man reported the incident at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters. The victim and suspect were taken to General Hospital Gamawa for medical examination as investigation is in progress.
The incident occurred on September 22, 2026, at about 1215hrs, when the suspect allegedly lured and violated the mentally ill woman. The suspects, Abubakar Ahmad alias Tino, Tijjani Yakubu, and Bappah Kawu, were arrested on September 25, 2026, at about 1500hrs, while on court duty at Chief Magistrate Court 1, Misau. The police intercepted Abubakar with a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Tijjani Yakubu had owned the firearm and had given it to Abubakar for safe-keeping. Tijjani confessed to purchasing the pistol from Bappah Kawu, a welder, for N30,000.00. Bappah Kawu was subsequently arrested and confessed to fabricating and selling the pistol. The police also recovered two dane guns and instruments used for fabrication from Bappah Kawu's workshop.
