Baobab Mali, a pan-African microfinance group, has been steadily expanding its presence in Mali since its first opening in September 2013. The institution has established a network of 18 agencies across the country, with nine of them located outside the capital city of Bamako. This strategic expansion has enabled Baobab Mali to develop close relationships with local economic actors, including markets in Bamako and producers in Ségou.

The group's expansion is built on professional partnerships and teams that have grown with the company. Baobab Mali's approach focuses on proximity, with agencies located in markets such as Dibida in Bamako, Koko in Koutiala, Ségou, and Mopti. This proximity allows the institution's agents to understand the sales, charges, and needs of clients, providing valuable insights to propose adapted credits and support business development.

Baobab Mali's efforts to understand its clients' needs are complemented by partnerships with professional organizations. In September 2024, the institution engaged in a partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mali. The partnership has led to joint events, such as "portes ouvertes" days, where Baobab's teams and economic operators discuss their activities and financing needs.

The institution also participates in discussions on technical aspects of projects in key sectors of the economy, such as agriculture. On May 10, 2025, Baobab Mali participated in a meeting on solar irrigation at the University of Ségou, organized by its partner GIZ Agro Finance. The meeting brought together producers, equipment suppliers, technical agents, and financiers to exchange on available solutions and financing possibilities.

Baobab Mali's involvement in the microfinance sector extends beyond its own operations. The institution participated in the Semaine de la microfinance, held from October 20 to 23, 2026, at the CICB. There, it engaged in discussions with other actors, such as Kafo Jiginew, COFINA, and Nyèsigiso, on ways to expand access to financial services in Mali.

The development of Baobab Mali's teams is also a priority. According to the company's director general, Baobab Mali employs 352 people, with an average age of 30. The institution invests in training and developing its recruits, with several agency heads having started as portfolio managers. Internal promotions, such as that of Zoumana Mangane, reflect the institution's growth and commitment to its employees.

Baobab Mali's growth and commitment to its clients and employees have enabled it to establish a strong presence in Mali. The institution, now owned 100% by Egypt's Beltone Capital, provides over 5 billion FCFA in credits monthly to entrepreneurs across the country. Its approach, built on proximity, partnerships, and employee development, has positioned Baobab Mali as a key player in the country's microfinance sector.
