An autopsy conducted on Dorita Macharia, the 86-year-old mother of former TV host Regina Re, has revealed that she died from severe blood loss caused by multiple stab wounds to the neck and face. The post-mortem examination, led by Government pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia, took over two hours to complete at Lee Funeral Home. Representatives from the deceased's family and the suspects' legal teams were present throughout the process.
According to Dr. Midia, the examination found approximately 20 wounds on Dorita's body, with two deep stab wounds in the neck severing blood vessels. The injuries were consistent with a sharp instrument, most likely a knife or similar bladed object. The pathologist stated that damage to blood vessels in Dorita's neck caused extensive external bleeding, which ultimately proved fatal.
The incident occurred on a Friday night, allegedly after Dorita returned home and found her granddaughter in the company of friends. Four suspects are currently being held in connection with the incident: Regina Re, her daughter Thandie Malaika, her brother Jimmy Masharia, and a fourth individual identified as Emmanuel Munyeki.
The group appeared before the Kibera Law Courts on Monday, where magistrates granted detectives a 10-day detention period to allow investigators to complete their inquiries into the death. The suspects' legal teams and the deceased's family were present during the court proceedings, with all parties seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding Dorita's death.
Following the autopsy, representatives from both sides expressed relief that the cause of death had been established, but emphasized that it was now up to investigators to determine the perpetrators and motive behind the crime. The findings gave them clarity on how Dorita died, but the question of who was responsible remains firmly in the hands of investigators.
Regina Re, a former TV host, has been implicated in her mother's murder case alongside her daughter, brother, and a fourth suspect. The incident has garnered significant attention in Kenya, with many awaiting the outcome of the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
The case is currently under investigation, with detectives working to establish the circumstances surrounding Dorita's death and the roles played by each of the four suspects. The autopsy results have provided crucial evidence, but it remains to be seen how the investigation will unfold and what the ultimate outcome will be.
