The African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) has held an investiture ceremony for its first Chancellor, Mr. Frank B. Adu Jr. The ceremony took place on September 18, 2026, on the campus of the University at Adabraka in Accra. This significant event marked a milestone in the development of the institution following the granting of a presidential charter to AUCB in December 2024.
Mr. Adu Jr. spelt out a five-point vision for the University, comprising digital transformation, industry-embedded education, ethical leadership and communication, a vibrant global alumni network, and financial sustainability. He noted that the vision aims to position AUCB to produce graduates armed with the knowledge, skills, values, and practical experience needed to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
The vision outlined by Mr. Adu Jr. aligns with AUCB’s mission to train ethical, forward-thinking leaders in communications and business. As Chancellor of AUCB, Mr. Adu will help shape the university’s future and support its mission. His passion for mentoring young people and his experience across banking, corporate leadership, education, and community service make him a suitable fit for the role.
Mr. Frank B. Adu Jr. is widely regarded as a transformative leader with over three decades of experience. As former Managing Director and CEO of CAL Bank PLC, he led the bank through 20 years of strong growth and innovation, earning a reputation as one of Ghana’s most respected financial minds. His legacy in banking, education, governance, and civic life makes him a highly respected Ghanaian leader.
The African University of Communications and Business offers postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, and professional development courses. It was established as the Africa Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC) in 2002 by Hon. Kojo Yankah. Initially offering a Diploma in Communication Studies, it gained accreditation as a tertiary institution in 2004 and has since expanded to include various programs.
To enhance learning and research, AUCB has established three centres: Kwabena Nketia Centre for Africana Studies, Ama Ata Aidoo Center for Creative writing, and a Business and Professional Development Centre. The university received a Presidential Charter in 2024, allowing it to offer its own academic programs and degrees. This charter provided the autonomy to operate as a fully-fledged university.
