The ASUU branch, led by Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi and Comrade Silas Amos Bakut, also recalled other welfare initiatives introduced by Governor Uba Sani. These initiatives have positively impacted the lives of academic staff, demonstrating the State Government's recognition of their vital role in advancing quality university education and sustainable development.
The union commended the Kaduna State Government and KASU Management for their handling of the earlier industrial action, noting that they were not subjected to intimidation, threats, or harassment. The union also appreciated the payment of salaries during the strike and the cordial engagements between the union, government, and university management.
Governor Uba Sani's administration has made significant progress in addressing inherited welfare challenges affecting ASUU members. Furthermore, the Governing Council and Management of KASU are working with the union to resolve outstanding death benefits and promotion arrears dating from 2021.
ASUU listed other initiatives introduced by the Kaduna State Government, including the allocation of 10.2 hectares of land for the KASU-ASUU Multipurpose Cooperative Society to develop the Academia Housing Estate. The Governor also approved a subsidy of N4 million for each beneficiary, making homeownership more accessible to academic staff.
The union reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with the State Government, the Governing Council, and University Management to resolve outstanding welfare issues and strengthen industrial harmony.
