Rev. John Joseph Hayab, Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, has encouraged Christians in Nigeria to invest in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO). During a media parley in Kaduna, Hayab emphasized that business and investment should not be viewed through a religious lens. He urged Christians to take advantage of this investment opportunity, overcoming any reservations they may have.
Hayab stressed that responsible Christian leaders should promote investment among their members rather than discouraging them from participating in legitimate business opportunities. According to him, business has no religion, and Christians should not let religious considerations prevent them from investing. He used the example of the Dangote IPO, stating that what is being sold is not Islam, but shares that can bring money.
The chairman of the Northern Christian Association highlighted the importance of investment in building wealth and securing the future of families and children. He encouraged Christians to look beyond their salaries as their only source of income. Hayab noted that the heavy reliance on salaries among church members affects church finances, as contributions tend to increase around payday and decline afterwards.
Hayab pointed out that the reliance on salaries is a major reason why church offerings are often poor. He stated that seventy percent of church members rely on their salaries, resulting in church offerings only increasing on payday. This, he believes, can be changed if Christians start investing and diversify their sources of income.
The chairman urged Christians to consider investing for their children and grandchildren, particularly to support their future education and other needs. He emphasized that investment can benefit families and future generations. By investing, Christians can secure their financial future and create a lasting legacy.
Hayab also believes that Nigeria's economy would grow faster if more citizens had stakes in businesses operating in the country. He stated that if investments belong to a select few, then the country is making a mistake. By investing in businesses like the Dangote Refinery, Christians can contribute to the growth and development of the Nigerian economy.
Finally, Hayab distinguished between investing in businesses like Dangote and involvement in politics. He urged Christians to view investment as part of long-term financial planning, separate from political parties and politicians whose positions can change after elections. By embracing investment, Christians can secure their financial future and contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
