The Association Okunasu, which translates to "helping one another" in the Bissa language, recently held its third edition of 48-hour gatherings for the children and youth of Sector 3 in Garango, Burkina Faso. The event, which took place on October 3-4, 2026, was held under the theme "Fraternity and Solidarity: Together for the Development of Sector 3." The gathering aimed to bring together the people of Sector 3 to foster unity and address common challenges.
During the event, the Association Okunasu distributed school kits to the top-performing students in the schools of Sector 3, Boura A, and Boura B. Additionally, books and notebooks were given to underprivileged students, while educational materials were provided to teachers. Pélagie Lingani, representing the beneficiary students, expressed gratitude and presented three requests, including the rehabilitation of the Boura A fountain, normalization of the Boura B school, and provision of additional educational tools to the schools.
Aboubacar Saré, President of the Association Okunasu, emphasized that the gatherings aim to enable the people of Sector 3 to come together, socialize, and discuss common challenges. He also mentioned an ongoing project to fence a school adjacent to a cemetery, which was initiated during the first edition but remains incomplete. The association is seeking contributions to complete the 102-meter fence, which aims to prevent disruptions to classes during cemetery gatherings.
Zakaria Zouré, First Vice-President of the Garango Special Delegation, attended the gathering and praised the Association Okunasu for undertaking projects that the commune, with its limited budget, cannot accomplish alone. He encouraged others to join the association, highlighting the positive impact of their initiatives, such as constructing fences and providing school supplies to underprivileged children.
Dr. Dominique Zouré, co-patron of the event, urged the residents and natives of Sector 3 to take an active role in the development of their community. He emphasized the importance of leaving a better legacy for future generations, stating that collective efforts can make a significant difference in the well-being of the community.
The Association Okunasu's initiative demonstrates the power of community solidarity in addressing educational needs in rural areas. With limited public resources, such initiatives can significantly contribute to the development of local communities. The event showcased the association's commitment to promoting education and unity in Sector 3, and it is hoped that the momentum will continue in future editions.
The Association Okunasu's efforts have been recognized by local authorities, who have expressed their appreciation for the association's contributions to the community. The event concluded with a renewed call for collective action and community involvement in the development of Sector 3.
