Two months after the devastating landslide at the Dar-es-Salam landfill in Conakry, Guinea, the victims and their families have received a new wave of support. The Association Haaly Pular d'Espagne, in partnership with the Fonds Alaves d'urgence (FAE), has donated essential items to alleviate the suffering of those affected. The handover ceremony took place on October 24 at the Emergence hall in Bambéto-Cosa.
The donation includes mattresses, food items such as rice, oil, sugar, and milk, as well as hygiene products and a symbolic financial envelope. This initiative aims to provide concrete support to the victims of the August 22-23 tragedy, which resulted in numerous fatalities and injuries, leaving many families in mourning and destitution.
The project was made possible through a €30,000 grant from the FAE, supported by the Vitoria-Gasteiz municipality and the Députation forale d'Álaves in Spain. Mamadou Saliou Diallo, representing the donor association, expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved families and solidarity with the affected individuals.
Diallo praised the mobilization of partners around this initiative, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and solidarity. He emphasized that every act of solidarity counts and encouraged continued collaboration to promote mutual aid and cooperation beyond borders.
Mamadou Aliou Diallo, coordinator of the project in Guinea, noted that the SOS Guinée Vert-Aides NGO, which has been active for over 15 years, is committed to supporting vulnerable populations. He stressed that their interventions extend beyond humanitarian assistance to include agriculture, environment, education, and combating gender-based violence.
The project aims to provide sustainable support to the affected families, and the beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude to the donors. Ibrahima Diallo and Mariam Soumah, representing the beneficiaries, called on the state authorities to provide increased support, particularly in terms of relocation, to enable the affected families to regain dignified and secure living conditions.
The initiative highlights the importance of solidarity between humanitarian organizations, international partners, and local authorities in responding to the consequences of disasters. For the victims of Dar-es-Salam, the challenge remains to rebuild their lives and find stable housing nearly two months after the tragedy.
