A prominent Arewa group in Delta State, led by Alhaji Mohammed Bello, Sarkin Hausawa of Warri and its environs, has expressed support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State. This was made known during a visit by Team Dayegah Godwin and Prince Tirhorho Dumuje to the Sarkin Hausawa in Warri. The group prayed for God's wisdom, strength, and good health for both leaders.
The Sarkin Hausawa also distanced himself and his people from the recent violent clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. He condemned any act of violence and called for those found culpable to face the relevant authorities. The group reaffirmed its support for Governor Oborevwori, citing his leadership and infrastructure projects across the state.
The Arewa group leader appealed to the state government to address key needs of the Hausa community, including transformers, streetlights, employment opportunities, inclusiveness, and a primary healthcare centre. Prince Dayegah Godwin Dumuje, speaking on behalf of Team Dayegah Godwin and Prince Tirhorho Dumuje, recalled the long-standing relationship between his family and the Hausa community. He noted that he was born in Northern Nigeria and lived in the Hausa Quarter in the 1960s.
Prince Dumuje thanked the Hausa community leader and his people for backing President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori's re-election bids. He added that the support should be extended to all candidates of the party during the upcoming general elections. He called on members of the Hausa community to reject violence and support peaceful political participation and development.
Other community leaders, including Mallam Hamza, Mr Sadiq Kolo, Nafiu Zango, APC Chairman of the Hausa Community, and Arewa Youth Leader Mallam Amar Hussein, also disowned the violent incident and expressed support for peaceful coexistence. The leaders commended Governor Oborevwori for infrastructure projects in their communities and called for further empowerment and inclusion of the Arewa community in government programmes.
Another leader of the group, Prince Tirhorho Dumuje, thanked the Arewa community for publicly distancing itself from the incident and for its commitment to peace and development. Barrister Lawrence Akpeti urged the community leaders to continue engaging their people on peaceful participation in the democratic process.
