The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all 17 chairmanship seats contested in the Local Government Area (LGA) elections held in Yobe State on Saturday. The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) announced the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital. According to YSIEC chairman, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, the election was conducted in a hitch-free manner across all 178 electoral wards and 17 LGAs.
A total of 10 political parties participated in the election, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs and councillorship seats in the 178 wards. Yabani described the participation as robust, reflecting the keen interest in the elections in several local government areas. The voting, counting, and collation of results were completed, with councillors' results declared at the ward levels and chairmanship results at the respective local government collation centres.
The YSIEC chairman presented the official summary of scores obtained by chairmanship candidates across the 17 Local Government Councils. The results showed that APC candidates won in all 17 LGAs. Some notable winners include Musa Kalan Dagona in Bade LGA with 54,312 votes, Bukar Adamu in Damaturu LGA with 18,465 votes, and Abdulmumini Usaini in Fika LGA with 61,326 votes.
Other APC chairmanship winners include Baba Goni Bade in Fune LGA with 74,411 votes, Alhaji Mohammed Musa in Geidam with 35,832 votes, and Alhaji Dala Mala in Gujba with 27,900 votes. In Gulani, Alhaji Dayyabu Ilu secured 35,999 votes, while Umaru Aguwa Jakusko got 47,653 votes in Jakusko. Alhaji Umara Mohammed won Karasuwa with 39,320 votes.
The APC also won in Machina, Nangere, Nguru, Potiskum, Tarmuwa, Yunusari, and Yusufari LGAs. The chairmanship winners in these areas include Idriss Mai Bukar, Samaila Musa, Mohammed Ahmed Mairami, Alhaji Salisu Muktari, Mohammed Lamido Musa Tarmuwa, Hon. Zanna Zakariya, and Adam Jibrin.
Although the APC swept the chairmanship positions, two opposition parties won councillorship seats. The African Peoples Party (APP) secured a councillorship seat in Fune LGA, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) won a councillorship seat in Karasuwa LGA. YSIEC chairman, Dr Yabani, stated that the commission would continue with the necessary processes arising from the concluded election.
The YSIEC has concluded the LGA elections, and the results have been declared. The commission's efforts to ensure a free and fair election were commended, as the exercise was conducted without major hitches. The elected chairmen and councilors will now be inaugurated, marking the beginning of a new term in the local governments.
