All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the North-Central region have scheduled a mega rally for October 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027. The stakeholders, who met under the North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, also pledged to deliver the highest number of votes for Tinubu from northern Nigeria. The meeting was attended by governors, government appointees, and other party leaders from the six states in the geopolitical zone.
The North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, whose grand patron is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, aims to mobilise votes across the region for Tinubu's re-election. The network has identified the grand rally, medical outreach, and grassroots advocacy tour as its major activities ahead of the elections. The programme has received the endorsement of the APC National Secretariat. The North-Central region comprises Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
As part of the resolutions, the stakeholders approved a medical outreach programme for sick and vulnerable residents across the three senatorial zones of Benue State. The programme will provide comprehensive eye screening and treatment, refraction and prescription of spectacles, cataract assessments, and selected cataract surgeries in appropriately equipped facilities. Other services will include glaucoma screening and diabetic eye examinations. This initiative aims to extend support to the grassroots and promote the party's image.
The stakeholders also endorsed a North-Central Grassroots Advocacy Tour and Town Hall Meetings across the 19 senatorial districts in the six states and the FCT. The programme, coordinated by the network's National Coordinator, Sonny St. Echono, is designed to extend the mobilisation campaign to grassroots communities across the region. This initiative will enable party members to engage with the local population and promote Tinubu's re-election bid.
The meeting further resolved to constitute a reconciliation committee to address grievances among party members and stakeholders and consolidate support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. This move aims to promote unity within the party and ensure a strong front for the upcoming elections. The committee's formation is expected to resolve internal conflicts and promote a cohesive party strategy.
In his earlier address, Akume said the North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network was established to mobilise votes across the geopolitical zone for the re-election of Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima. He emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation in securing a landslide victory for the party in the 2027 elections. The network's activities are designed to promote the party's agenda and ensure a strong showing in the region.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, read the resolutions after the meeting, which was attended by key stakeholders from the region. The party leaders are expected to reconvene next week to coordinate preparations for the rally and other mobilisation activities. The October 10 rally will bring together APC members and supporters from the six states to demonstrate their support for Tinubu's re-election.
