The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his reported comments about being unable to afford medication for his late mother. In a statement by APC's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party expressed condolences over the death of Amaechi's mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi. The APC prayed for her soul's repose and wished Amaechi good health.

The party, however, criticized Amaechi over his reported financial difficulties since leaving public office. Amaechi served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of the state, and Minister of Transportation before emerging as the ADC vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. The APC questioned how Amaechi, after holding top public offices, could reportedly struggle to provide medication for himself and his family.

According to Morka, Amaechi had previously spoken publicly about experiencing financial hardship, including a claim that his wife was feeding him. The APC said his latest account concerning his mother's medication had further raised questions about his financial circumstances outside government. Morka stated that Amaechi's confessions must not be missed, as he had become so broke that his wife was now feeding him, and now claims that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89.

The ruling party questioned Amaechi's ability to sustain himself outside political office, alleging that he had become overly dependent on government positions for his livelihood. It argued that his experience raised questions about his suitability for the vice-presidential position he is seeking in 2027. The APC also criticized the ADC ticket, suggesting that the presidency should not be viewed as a means of providing personal financial security.

The APC stated that the presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi. Morka said Amaechi's own public comments provided the basis for the APC's criticism of his suitability for the vice-presidential contest. The party concluded that there can be no better speaker of Amaechi's unfitness for the office of vice president than Amaechi himself.

Amaechi's financial struggles have raised concerns about his ability to lead. The APC's criticism comes as Amaechi prepares for the 2027 general elections. As a former governor and minister, Amaechi's financial struggles have sparked debate about the financial responsibilities of public office holders.

The APC's statement has sparked a reaction from Amaechi's supporters, who argue that the party is trying to discredit him. However, the APC maintains that its criticism is based on Amaechi's own public comments. The party's statement has also raised questions about the financial transparency of public office holders and the implications for their future roles.
