Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has highlighted internal disagreements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a significant challenge facing the party in the North Central region. He made this statement at a meeting of the North Central Grassroots Mobilization Network held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja. The meeting was attended by high-ranking APC officials and stakeholders from the region.
Governor Sule specifically mentioned Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa as states where the party is facing internal challenges. He noted that efforts are being made to resolve these issues and called for maturity in handling the disagreements. Sule urged those involved to avoid making public statements that could harm the party. This appeal comes as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, attended by APC national chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda and other senior party officials, formed part of the North Central APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections. Governor Sule commended the APC national leadership for prioritizing reconciliation, citing the presence of senior party officials at the meeting as a positive step.
According to Governor Sule, support for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 will come from various categories of voters. These include those who personally support the president, those assessing his performance, and those whose preferred candidates are supporting his presidential bid. He stressed the need for APC leaders to understand the connection between support for the presidential candidate and support for candidates contesting other positions.
Governor Sule expressed concern that disagreements over candidates for other elective positions could undermine the party’s efforts to maximize its votes in 2027. He noted that some party members are saying they will vote for the president but not for other party candidates, which could create resentment among supporters of rejected candidates.
The North Central Grassroots Mobilization Network has planned several activities to boost APC support in the region. These include a grand rally on October 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, a medical outreach in Benue State, and grassroots advocacy tours and town hall meetings across the six states in the zone and the Federal Capital Territory.
Governor Sule’s comments highlight the challenges facing the APC as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. The party’s ability to manage internal disagreements and present a united front will be crucial in maximizing its chances of success in the North Central region.
