The Adamawa State All Progressives Congress Elders Forum, Northern Zone, has praised AG Vision, the contractor handling the Yola-Mubi road project, for the quality of work on the first phase. The group urged the Federal Government to fast-track the award of the second phase. Mohammed Abubakar, the spokesman for the group, stated that the first phase had been completed and called on the FG to award the contract for the second phase before the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar emphasized the importance of the Yola-Mubi road, describing it as critical to the people of northern Adamawa. He noted that the road links Nigeria with the Republic of Cameroon and that Mubi remains a significant commercial centre in the state. The completion of the road before the general elections would be an added advantage to the APC, he said.
The APC elder commended President Bola Tinubu and AG Vision for proactive measures that led to the completion of the first phase. He appealed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to award the second phase, stating that this would silence the opposition. Abubakar added that completing the road would boost commercial activities in Mubi and strengthen trade relations between Nigeria and Cameroon.
Abubakar also highlighted the road's significance for security agencies, enabling them to respond effectively to insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping in the area. The northern Adamawa and central zones are under security threat due to their proximity to the Sambisa Forest, he noted. The Yola-Mubi road is crucial for the military and other security agencies to respond to attacks in the zone.
Some commercial motorists have commended the completed section of the road, describing it as one of the better road projects recently executed in the state. Alhaji Saidu Umar, a commercial motorist, praised AG Vision for doing a good job, noting that the reconstructed road is wider and thicker than before.
Abubakar called on the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to facilitate the award of the second phase of the project. He alleged that some individuals are attempting to frustrate the project for political reasons but expressed confidence that Ribadu's intervention would prevent this. Abubakar also alleged that some APC members in Adamawa State are working with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to Arewa Punch findings, AG Vision completed the first 52-kilometre phase of the Yola-Mubi road project some months ago and is awaiting the award of the second and final phase. The APC elders' endorsement of the project and call for its completion reflect the project's significance to the region's residents and the APC's electoral prospects.
