The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Local Government Area (LGA) elections in Yobe state, winning all 17 chairmanship seats. The State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) announced the results at its headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital. According to YOSIEC Chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammad Yabani, the election was conducted in a hitch-free manner across all 178 electoral wards and 17 LGAs in the state on September 26, 2026.
A total of 10 political parties participated in the election, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs as well as the councillorship seats across the 178 wards. Yabani described the participation as robust, reflecting the keen interest in the elections in several local government areas. The election process involved the counting and collation of votes, with results for councillors declared at the ward levels and those for chairmen declared at the respective Local Government collation centres.
The chairmanship results were presented by Yabani, who disclosed the scores obtained by the respective chairmanship candidates across the 17 Local Government Councils. The results showed that APC candidates won in all 17 LGAs, with notable victories in areas such as Bade, Fika, and Potiskum. In Bade LGA, Musa Kalan Dagona of APC secured 54,312 votes, while in Fika LGA, Abdulmumini Usaini of APC garnered 61,326 votes.
The APC's dominance was evident in other LGAs, including Damaturu, where Bukar Adamu secured 18,465 votes, and Fune, where Baba Goni Bade garnered 74,411 votes. Other notable winners include Alhaji Mohammed Musa in Geidam LGA with 35,832 votes and Alhaji Dala Mala in Gujba LGA with 27,900 votes. The APC's performance was consistent across the state, with the party securing a majority of votes in most LGAs.
Despite the APC's dominance, there were some notable exceptions. In Fune and Karasuwa LGAs, two councillorship seats were won by opposition parties – APP and ADP, respectively. This indicates that while the APC was successful in securing the chairmanship seats, other parties were able to make some inroads in the councillorship elections.
The YOSIEC Chairman commended the participants and stakeholders for their roles in ensuring a successful election. He also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing it as hitch-free.
