The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Enugu State local government elections, winning all 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions. The Chairman-elect of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani, attributed the party's landslide victory to the developmental work of Governor Peter Mbah. According to the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof Christian Ngwu, the election was conducted in a free and fair manner, following the rules guiding the commission. Ngwu announced the outcome of the polls at the commission's headquarters in Enugu on Sunday and declared that the commission would issue certificates of return to the winners.
The results of the election show that APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates defeated their opponents with wide margins. In Igbo-Eze South, the Chairman-elect, Chief Ugochukwu Ukwueze, secured all 51,033 votes cast. Similarly, in Igbo-Eze North, Dr Chris Onyebuchi clinched all 137,751 votes cast. These results demonstrate the dominance of the APC in the state.
The APC state Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, stated that the party's resounding victory indicated its dominance in the state. He urged residents to continue supporting the party, adding that Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu would be re-elected in 2027 due to their exceptional performance in the past three years.
In Aninri Local Government Area, Ugochukwu Nwanjoku secured 17,016 votes, defeating his opponent, Chief Emeka Amasie, who polled 2,006 votes. The incumbent Chairman and Chairman-elect for Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani, polled 71,335 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr A.A Ugwu, who scored 1,311 votes.
