The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State has gained momentum ahead of the 2027 elections. Prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including grassroots mobilisers formerly with Hon. Tolulope Sadipe, have defected to the APM with hundreds of their followers. The defectors were led by Chief Adewale Alatise, popularly known as Afama, alongside other prominent APC leaders and grassroots political actors in the local government.
Among those who joined the APM were Reverend Adeniyi Oluwarotimi, Temitope Emmanuel, Asasile Oluwabunmi and Alaba Isiaka. They were said to have mobilised their supporters to follow them into the APM. The Oluyole APM chairman, Alhaji Hamzat Nasir, welcomed the defectors, saying the development has expanded the party's growing grassroots membership base. This comes amid increasing political activities and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors were received by APM leaders in Oluyole Local Government, including the party chairman, Hon. Nasiru Hamzat, and the party’s chairmanship candidate, Hon. Olaide Settle. Others at the defection reception included the Oluyole Local Government Vice Chairman, Hon. Adeniyi Akorede, and the party’s Ward 10 councillorship candidate, Hon. Wale Arapaja.
APM leaders welcomed the new members, describing their decision to join the party as a further indication of the growing acceptance of the APM at the grassroots. They noted that the latest defection will add to the party's political strength in Oluyole, particularly with the involvement of experienced grassroots mobilisers.
The APM House of Representatives candidate for Oluyole federal constituency, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, said the party has intensified its grassroots and ward-to-ward mobilisation across Oluyole. He cited the unprecedented transformation brought about by Governor Seyi Makinde's administration as a key selling point for the APM. Olatunji urged the defectors to participate in all political engagements of the APM to ensure a landslide victory for its candidates in 2027.
Olatunji noted that the era of false propaganda and rhetoric to dissuade voters has gone extinct. He said the electorate has become more politically aware and conscious of reality on the ground in terms of political leadership and good governance. Olatunji expressed confidence that the APM will win the 2027 elections, saying the party will focus on showcasing its results rather than engaging in media rhetoric.
Olatunji described the defectors as 'APC spinal cords' and said the party is literally dead in Oluyole federal constituency. He assured the defectors that they will be shown how to get the job done and participate in the party's political engagements. The defection is seen as a significant blow to the APC in Oluyole, with the APM gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
