A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has expressed his opinion that President Bola Tinubu's administration does not require paid social media influencers to promote its achievements. According to Mumuni, the administration's record should speak for itself. This statement comes in response to the Federal Government's plan to mobilize 4,000 social media influencers to promote infrastructure projects under the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the plan on September 22, in Abuja, while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following their inspection of federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Sokoto states. Umahi stated that the proposed influencer network would help the government communicate its infrastructure projects and achievements directly to Nigerians, particularly young people.
Mumuni, in a statement signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, argued that the administration's economic reforms, institutional changes, and infrastructure development provide sufficient evidence of its performance without paid promotion. He emphasized that the evidence of the administration's achievements is undeniable and that they do not need influencers or paid voices to speak for them.
The APC chieftain commended the administration for demonstrating courage in taking difficult decisions aimed at addressing the economic and institutional challenges it inherited. He noted that the steps taken towards economic stabilization, fiscal responsibility, and institutional reforms are evidence of a government committed to long-term transformation.
Mumuni also defended the administration against criticisms over insecurity and economic hardship, arguing that these challenges predated Tinubu's assumption of office. He stated that the President inherited longstanding problems that required sustained efforts to resolve and that he had been working tirelessly to address them.
Mumuni expressed optimism that continued implementation of the government's policies could lead to improved security, economic stability, and renewed public confidence. He urged Nigerians to consider the broader direction of government policies and to remain confident in the country's capacity for development.
The APC chieftain called for continued support for Tinubu, saying another four-year term would enable the administration to complete its ongoing programs. He urged Nigerians to look beyond criticism and believe in their nation's capacity for greatness, adding that President Tinubu has proven his mettle and should be given the mandate to finish what he has started.
