An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Lagos State, Olofa Ademola Adedokun, has emphasised the need for early grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Adedokun, founder of the Tinubu Unity Forum (TUF), believes that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's political structure and record will be crucial in the contest. He advocates for APC members to focus on identifying and mobilising voters, rather than relying on political rallies.
Adedokun expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure another term, citing the administration's achievements in infrastructure, education financing, and other sectors. He highlighted investments in rail and road infrastructure, as well as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), as key factors that would feature prominently in the APC's campaign. Adedokun also pointed to Tinubu's political experience and nationwide political structure as significant advantages.
According to Adedokun, Tinubu's political network extends beyond his traditional base in the Southwest, thanks to his years in Lagos politics and his emergence as a national political leader. He praised Tinubu as a great leader, comparing him to Obafemi Awolowo. Adedokun also discussed possible opposition challengers, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.
Adedokun believes that Atiku and Obi would face significant political challenges in attempting to unseat Tinubu. He argued that Atiku's repeated presidential contests would be weighed against Tinubu's experience and incumbency, while Obi would need to translate his existing political support into a broader national coalition. Adedokun also commented on reported presidential ambitions involving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Adedokun urged APC leaders and members to strengthen the party's grassroots structures and begin voter engagement ahead of the election. He expressed confidence in the political future of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, describing him as an experienced politician who would remain relevant in the state's political landscape. Adedokun also highlighted his long-standing relationship with Tinubu.
Adedokun founded the Tinubu Unity Forum in 2022 to mobilise support for Tinubu's 2023 presidential bid. He stated that the group comprises members from different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Adedokun's call for early grassroots mobilisation is seen as a strategic move to ensure Tinubu's re-election in 2027.
