Andrea Lodges and Zenfan Le Sud joined forces to organise a community clean-up initiative from Gris Gris to Andrea Lodges, in recognition of World Cleanup Day. The initiative brought together participants who share a commitment to preserving Mauritius' natural environment. Through a guided walk and a clean-up operation along the route, the activity encouraged responsible behaviour, raised awareness about waste management, and highlighted the importance of collective action in protecting public spaces.

The event began with participants gathering at Gris Gris for a briefing before setting off on a guided walk towards Andrea Lodges. For a minimum of one and a half hours, participants collected waste along the route while discovering the natural beauty of the south of Mauritius. The activity concluded at Andrea Lodges, where participants were welcomed for lunch and had the opportunity to discover the lodge and its surroundings.

The clean-up initiative was motivated by a shared desire to take practical action for the protection of Mauritius' natural landscapes. While public spaces such as coastal areas, roadsides, and nature trails provide important places for recreation, tourism, and community life, they are increasingly affected by littering, inappropriate waste disposal, and other forms of environmental degradation.

"Protecting the environment requires more than awareness; it requires action," said Mrs. Vanida Maureemootoo, Assistant Lodges Manager. "This initiative demonstrates what can be achieved when businesses, citizens, and community organisations work together. Every piece of waste collected and every responsible habit adopted contributes to a cleaner and healthier Mauritius."

World Cleanup Day serves as an important reminder that environmental protection is a shared responsibility. It mobilises people around the world to take action against litter and waste while encouraging long-term behavioural change. In Mauritius, the occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of preserving the island's beaches, cliffs, forests, waterways, public spaces, and other natural assets for future generations.

For Andrea Lodges, responsible hospitality means creating meaningful experiences while respecting the environment and supporting the communities connected to the destination. Located in the south of Mauritius, Andrea Lodges offers guests an authentic experience surrounded by nature. Its approach to hospitality extends beyond the guest experience to include environmental awareness, community engagement, and support for initiatives that contribute to the preservation and appreciation of Mauritius' natural heritage.

The initiative underlines the important role of different stakeholders in protecting the environment. Citizens can reduce litter, dispose of waste responsibly, and take part in community initiatives. Businesses can adopt more sustainable practices and support actions that benefit the environment and local communities. By working together, communities can help keep public spaces cleaner, protect Mauritius' natural landscapes, and foster a stronger culture of environmental responsibility.
