ANC deputy secretary-general Nomvula Mokonyane has stated that the party is aggressively embarking on a door-to-door strategy to win over electoral support in the upcoming local government elections. Speaking at the Political Arena elections debate at Wits University, Mokonyane emphasized that the ANC has extensive experience of being on the ground, with 114 years of existence. The party is rooted in voting districts and ward-based in its campaign, allowing it to be closer to the people.

Mokonyane vowed that the ANC is on a path of renewal, with a grand plan to restore stability to fractured municipalities. The party seeks to fix local government, working together with communities and various other partners to ensure inclusive growth. This includes delivering services, promoting accountability of public representatives, and sustainable management of resources. The ANC aims to move from current challenges and address the needs of the people.

The ANC is currently dealing with a crackdown in local government and has interventions in place to accelerate progress. Mokonyane stated that the party is rooted in communities and will mobilize all its volunteers to woo supporters to back the ANC on the November 4th ballots. The party maintains contact with its members at least four times before the election, operating through cells and street committees.

Mokonyane maintained that the party will perform better than what is being projected by polling, having learnt from the blow dealt at the 2024 national and provincial election. The ANC has become smarter, working together with communities to ensure a stronger showing in the upcoming elections. The party respects research but is confident in its abilities.

In contrast, Democratic Alliance federal leader Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed concerns about the appointment of city managers. He stated that the idea of having a preconceived notion of who should be appointed city manager is exactly why the current situation exists. Hill-Lewis emphasized that there is a lot that parties can agree on, highlighting the need for cooperation.

Mokonyane's comments come as the ANC seeks to regain momentum in the lead-up to the local government elections. The party is focused on engaging in voter contact and winning over electoral support. With its extensive experience and community roots, the ANC is confident in its ability to deliver services and promote accountability.

The ANC's path of renewal is centered around its commitment to the people, with Mokonyane affirming that the party is the ANC of the people. The party's grand plan aims to address the current challenges and promote sustainable growth. As the elections approach, the ANC is working tirelessly to ensure a strong showing.
