A free medical outreach organised by the Community Empowerment Development Youth and Knowledge (CEDYK) with sponsorship from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District, Chief Ebuka Onukwo, has provided medical care to over 500 residents. The outreach, held at St. John’s Anglican Church in Nnewi South Local Government Area, aimed to offer relief to people struggling with various ailments amid economic challenges. Beneficiaries began arriving at 9 a.m. to access the free medical services.
The medical outreach catered to residents suffering from various conditions, including eye problems, arthritis, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. CEDYK Coordinator in Nnewi South LGA, Bro. Iyke Uzukwu, also known as Anambra Prophet, stated that the initiative was designed to provide medical care to those who could not afford it. He commended the sponsor, Chief Ebuka Onukwo, for his philanthropic activities and noted that the medical outreach cost millions of naira.
According to Uzukwu, CEDYK chose Onukwo as the sponsor due to his record of providing assistance to vulnerable people. He mentioned that several politicians had contacted CEDYK to sponsor their programmes, but the organisation declined, citing their lack of a philanthropic track record. Uzukwu explained that Onukwo’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes, including assistance to people beyond his immediate community, made him an ideal partner.
Uzukwu cited examples of Onukwo’s philanthropic interventions, including the construction of a three-bedroom apartment for an indigent widow in Osumenyi and the sponsorship of a CEDYK member suffering from kidney disease for treatment abroad. He noted that these individuals were complete strangers to Onukwo, yet he provided assistance. This, according to Uzukwu, demonstrated Onukwo’s dedication to helping those in need.
The medical outreach was a collaborative effort between CEDYK and health workers who partnered to deliver medical services to the beneficiaries. Uzukwu expressed appreciation to the health workers for their support. He also announced plans to expand the medical outreach to cover the entire Nnewi South LGA and other local government areas across Anambra State.
Chief Ebuka Onukwo, the NDC senatorial candidate, is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Seahorse Lubricant Industries Ltd., based in Ihembosi, Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State. His philanthropic activities have earned him recognition, and his sponsorship of the medical outreach has positively impacted the lives of over 500 residents.
The free medical outreach is a testament to the impact that partnerships between organisations and individuals can have on communities. As CEDYK and its partners continue to provide medical care to those in need, the event has highlighted the importance of philanthropy and humanitarian efforts in addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.
